Too often, these names become abstract or institutionalized, disconnected from the people they honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This project asks: Who were they? What was their connection to this place? Short audio recordings\u2014featuring the voices of those who knew them\u2014create an accessible way for the Vassar community to engage with its living history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By inviting a wide range of storytellers and centering underrepresented perspectives, the project aims to foster deeper belonging, spark curiosity, and transform physical spaces into places of memory, meaning, and shared legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Named spaces at Vassar often honor people \u2014but over time, these names can become abstracted, even sanitized. We refer to rooms and buildings, not people. The Palmer Gallery becomes just a place, not a reflection of Jim Palmer. This project asks: <em>Who were these individuals? What was their connection to this community?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By sharing personal stories\u2014especially in the voices of those who knew them\u2014we bring depth, warmth, and humanity back into these spaces. Through short audio recordings linked by QR codes, we offer context and connection, transforming names into narratives. In doing so, we align with the goals of Engaged Pluralism: honoring diverse perspectives, valuing lived experience, and fostering a culture of belonging. When we hear a familiar voice share a meaningful story, we remember that Vassar is shaped not just by donors, but by people\u2014and that their stories live on through us.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the first of what we hope will be many such recordings breathing life into these historic spaces.
